11/19/2023 0 Comments Wilbur hot springs![]() They are open 24 hours and when I woke up before sunrise they were a welcome place to spend time. The hot springs are a relaxing way to spend time. Before that I could hear the people playing pool and music, but that was no problem. It was off the dining area and was happy to see that people respected the 10 pm quiet time until the morning. I stayed in the smaller of the 2 rooms that are in the main hotel. It feels like you go back in time, where people aren't checking their devices, people play music, play pool and enjoy the waters and the scenery. I've been wanting to come here for a long time, and decided to go in order to take Sarana's yoga retreat weekend. If you've got money to burn, go - otherwise, think about it carefully. Eeks!Ĭooking is difficult - though the kitchen (shared by all) is a nice one, I felt like I was staying in a hostel. Also, WHY are there SHARPS (needle disposal) containers in the rooms? Perhaps because many people who are sick go for the 'healing waters' - I'm thinking drug use in the rooms. I found the waters to be smelly, my anxiety levels heightened while there (despite the digital detox I was looking forward to) and it was all around a bad memory I would soon like to forget. The vibe is difficult to pick up on many visitors are friendly - others, much too friendly (like, leave me alone I wanted to chill out, be quiet or visit with my partner, not the chatty single 60 year old woman, solo and naked who constantly appeared when we went in the pool). ![]() Overpriced accommodations ($300+ per night) for a bed in 1/2 of a cabin, 1/2 bath with NO hot water, no towels - we went in the middle of summer and the heat was unbearable. My last straw was the showers ran out of hot water and the tubs were not hot the next morning. The grounds were clean to be fair but in much need of maintenance. Maintenance has been neglected as well Every stick of wood I saw needs oiling (hand railing unusable, decks splintery and fencing crumbling). Maybe because of the drought but they were concentrated and especially green, not full of life force as they once were. There is no sign of dissolution of the fibers, and the quartz crystals are perfectly clear and do not show casts of metasomatically replaced fibers. ![]() The altered crocidolite is embedded in the quartz crystals as very thin fibers that contribute only a small percentage of the overall mass. Tiger's eye is made of elongated quartz crystals that, like the crocidolite fibers, grew roughly perpendicular to the fissure walls. After I have looked at thin sections of tiger's eye under a polarizing microscope, I find the simultaneous formation of quartz and crocidolite fibers likely. These objections are mainly based on mineralogical, in particular crystallographic observations on tiger's eye and hawk's eye specimen that support a syngenetical (simultaneous) formation and possibly epitactic intergrowth of crocidolite fibers and quartz. However, recently objections have been raised about this theory by Heaney and Fisher (2003). So the silicification at most places extends further into the ground than the oxidative alterations, and both processes are considered secondary - they apparently occurred after the crocidolite veins have formed, the silicification only for some period in time, while the oxidation is an ongoing process. If one follows a vein into the ground, one will first find tiger's eye, then at most places after a few meters hawk's eye, and finally crocidolite asbestos. This top layer is said to have been silicified starting from the surface. This assumption is further supported by the fact that both tiger's eye and hawk's eye occur in the same veins as crocidolite, however in general only at places where these veins appear at the surface. Occasionally hawk's eye shows areas of yellow color, corresponding to tiger's eye, and this is interpreted as an indication that hawk's eye represents an intermediate step in the alteration of crocidolite to quartz and iron oxides. They are completely replaced by quartz and iron oxides in tiger's eye.Īccording to the more common theory, tiger's eye would present a pseudomorph of quartz after crocidolite. The cause of its chatoyance can be embedded fibers of asbestos, as well as actinolite fibers.Īsbestos is a well known useful but hazardous material and can cause lung cancer, but its dangerous fibers are well embedded in hawk's eye and cat's eye and pose no danger for its owner. There is a smaller vein above that is just opening to the right.Ĭat's eye is typically more translucent and brighter, and occurs in a variety of colors, green, yellow, brown, and rarely blue. The fibers run roughly perpendicular to the walls of the vein. This cut and polished specimen from Griquatown, South Africa, shows a little vein of tiger's eye running through the host rock. Due to its fibrous structure, tiger's eye has a somewhat splintery fracture, not unlike wood. The former fibrous structure is preserved in the orientation of the small columnar quartz crystals that grew perpendicular to the walls of the vein. Though brighter than hawk's eye, tiger's eye is still almost opaque. In tiger's eye the crocidolite fibers appear to have been fully replaced by quartz and the hydrous iron oxide goethite, FeOOH, the latter being responsible for the yellow-brown color. ![]() It is usually very dark and almost opaque. Hawk's eye is a partially silicified fibrous blue-gray crocidolite asbestos, so its fibrous structure is due to embedded fibers of crocidolite in quartz. The fine fibrous structure is shown in the close up image of a cut and polished tiger's eye to the right (note the scale). The chatoyance is a result of the fibrous structure of tiger's eye, hawk's eye, and cat's eye. It can also be seen in other minerals, for example in chrysoberyl, which is then named "oriental cat's eye". This effect is named chatoyance because its look resembles an eye of a cat ("chat" is French for cat). Smaller specimen will show only one or two long lines. ![]() All "eyes" show a wavy pattern of parallel lines that seem to move when the stone is turned. The most obvious property and the reason for its use as a gemstone is the silky shine that can be seen in polished, and especially in tumbled and cabochon-cut stones. The music video format proliferated and matured during the 1980s and 1990s, but musicians and filmmakers developed its basic shape and first explored its creative limits during the ’70s, a time of tumult and innovation in the record business, from the rise of arena rock and prog through the emergence of disco, electronic dance music, punk, and new wave. Actual music video programs started taking shape as well: Australian television had two such shows, and ex-Monkee Mike Nesmith started a program called “ Pop Clips” that briefly aired on Nickelodeon a year before MTV’s launch. Local television stations would often air the clips between programs, and discos started streaming them on loop via closed-circuit TV. ![]() A handful of well-funded and/or forward-thinking musicians started making short promotional films in the early ’70s, and as video technology continued to advance through the decade, many directors fell for its speed, creative possibilities, and easy duplicability-not only expanding the practice, but creating a unique visual aesthetic as well.Īs the ’70s went on, distribution networks for music videos (throughout this piece, I use “music video” as shorthand, even though it doesn’t directly apply in many cases) started emerging. Though the phrase “music video” didn’t take hold until the late 1970s, the prototype for the form and its promotional possibilities came with the Beatles’ simple short films for “Paperback Writer” and “Rain,” songs they were loath to recreate live (the video package sent to “Ed Sullivan” in 1966 came with an apologetic intro from the band explaining that the clips were substituting for an in-person appearance). Patrons of nightclubs in the 1940s could view Soundies of Fats Waller and Duke Ellington, and the rise of television in the 1950s made pop music a permanently multimedia form: Between “The Ed Sullivan Show” and programs like “Top of the Pops,” “American Bandstand,” and “Soul Train,” musicians have long developed visual styles to accompany their songs. But by then, the idea of linking popular music with motion pictures was nothing new. Even though only a handful of viewers actually saw MTV’s technologically challenged first moments on August 1, 1981, that date has been etched into history as the birth of the music video. ![]() 11/19/2023 0 Comments Ocean maya royale riviera maya reviews![]() ![]() Whilst all of them are great representatives of the hotel I would like to single out Esteban and thank him for helping make our holiday even more special.
